From Hainan to Europe: Highlights from the 6th China International Consumer Products Expo and Opportunities for Cross-Border E-Commerce

The 6th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), also known as the Hainan Expo, opened on 13 April 2026 in Haikou, Hainan. As a key member of the E2G team, what struck me most on the opening day was not the bustle, but the genuine warmth of real connections. In the Ireland Pavilion, we reunited with old friends and welcomed new partners from across industries. Face-to-face conversations about markets, challenges, and opportunities reminded us that nothing replaces personal engagement.

A highlight was meeting the Irish Ambassador to China, who kindly acknowledged E2G’s role in transporting pandemic relief supplies between China and Ireland. His recognition of our team’s efforts during that difficult period was deeply humbling and serves as powerful validation of our commitment to reliable, professional logistics.

At E2G, we remain dedicated to strengthening the bridge between China, Ireland, and the broader European market — not just as a slogan, but as a daily promise we deliver through dependable service.

Key Highlights of the 2026 Hainan Expo

.This year’s expo is particularly significant as the first major international event following the full implementation of Hainan Free Trade Port’s island-wide customs closure operations. It attracted over 3,400 brands from more than 60 countries and regions, with international exhibits accounting for 65% of the total — a 20 percentage point increase from last year. New national pavilions from countries such as Russia and Bulgaria made their debut, while Canada served as the Guest of Honour with a large 400-square-metre pavilion.

The expo placed strong emphasis on innovation and sustainability. In the technology consumption zone, visitors saw cutting-edge launches including AI-powered glasses, intelligent connected vehicles, amphibious flying cars, and AI health-care robots. Over 200 new products were unveiled — double the number from the previous year — highlighting a clear shift toward green, digital, and intelligent consumer goods. A new “China Trend Going Global” pavilion also showcased traditional Chinese crafts, silk, porcelain, and cultural creative products with modern appeal.

Three Major Trends Impacting China-to-Europe Cross-Border E-Commerce

The expo provided valuable insights into evolving demands that directly affect exporters targeting the European market:

Shift from Low-Cost Commodities to Branded Smart Products. Chinese smart manufacturing is moving up the value chain. European consumers, including those in Ireland, increasingly prioritise quality, brand reputation, and innovation. This requires logistics partners to offer more sophisticated services: faster time-sensitive delivery for high-value goods, robust after-sales support in Europe, reverse logistics, and full compliance with standards such as CE marking and WEEE recycling obligations.

New Opportunities through Amazon Ireland. The launch of Amazon.ie in March 2025, has positioned Ireland as a strategic logistics gateway into the EU. Using Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) in Ireland can significantly reduce logistics costs (by up to 53% in some cases) and enable efficient coverage of the entire European market via the EFN (European Fulfilment Network). Sellers should prepare in advance by obtaining an Irish VAT number, as remote sales exceeding €10,000 within the EU trigger registration requirements.

Compliance and Sustainability as Non-Negotiable Requirements. Irish and European consumers are highly conscious of environmental responsibility — research shows that around 60% will avoid brands that fail to meet sustainability standards. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules, sustainable packaging, and transparent carbon footprint reporting have become entry-level expectations rather than optional extras. At E2G, we have built strong expertise in supporting clients with Irish VAT registration, local European returns handling, and full compliance solutions.

The expo continues until 18 April, and the E2G team will remain at the Ireland Pavilion to meet both existing and new partners. Whether you need dedicated China-to-Ireland express services, pan-European warehousing solutions, or comprehensive compliance support, we are ready to discuss how we can help your business grow.
